Finesse Dressage Groom/Working Student Part-Time
The Finesse Dressage Groom/Working Student facilitates the smooth operation of the Finesse Dressage™ training business by working closely with trainer Jaralyn Finn managing all aspects of horse care and preparation of horses for daily riding. We are looking for someone who wants to be an integral part of our team, helping our horses and clients reach their full potential. Finesse Dressage offers a supportive, fun work environment, with superb facilities and a high level of customer service.
Responsibilities include helping to manage a private 10-stall training facility and prepping horses for riding.Warming up/cooling down of trainer’s horses and other riding is possible depending on the candidate’s skill. Stall cleaning two days per week, and quick picking out daily.Grooming, body clipping, braiding, giving IM shots, medication administration, wrapping, lunging, tack cleaning etc., are all required skills.
The position requires working at horse shows and helping to run clinics with visiting trainers approximately 1-2x/month, April-November. The ideal candidate aspires to become a professional groom or dressage trainer, and wants to work in a small, private program with high standards. Ideally, applicants have competed successfully at training level or above. Candidate must have a strong work ethic, be coachable, flexible, have good people skills and a sense of humor. No smokers please.Bachelors or Associates degree required unless you are still in school. We are located 40 minutes north of Washington D.C., in the heart of Potomac Hunt country in Poolesville, Maryland. Compensation varies depending on experience. No housing available.Riding opportunities and lessons are considered part of compensation package and there is time for observing training sessions included in the weekly schedule.If applicant is not interested in riding and lessons, and has experience as a professional groom, compensation is further negotiable.
